Newsletter - July 2025

Somehow it's already halfway through the year! This month saw the release of my podcast episode on How Humans Talk as well as keeping on with research and booking in some more workshops for 2026.

Recommendation of the month

This month's recommendation is the book Talk by Prof Elizabeth Stokoe. This is a great entry-point into the science of conversation (and a great read even for those more familiar with it). Prof Stokoe also has a TEDx Talk and some great podcast appearances if you're wanting to know about how conversation works in the wild.

Podcast

The healthcare-specific episode of How Humans Talk is now out. The episode features me and fellow healthcare communication expert, Dr Mary Dahm, from Deakin University.

Survey

We'd like to hear from you - what are you interested in when it comes to communication and how can we improve what we offer at Bedside Manners Pty Ltd. Please complete the survey here.

Conversation Analysis Special Interest Group @ the International Association for Communication in Healthcare

A group of conversation analysts, including me, have started a SIG at EACH: the International Association for Communication in Healthcare. Led by Dr Amanda McArthur, we're excited to connect with people interested in the science of conversation and how it can be used to understand and improve communication in healthcare. To that end, my plenary from the organisation's 2024 conference is available on YouTube with the Q&A here.

Stay chatty!

Sarah
