It’s been great to interact more with people on social media in the past couple of months. Along with my many posts about the International Conference on Conversation Analysis across Instagram and BlueSky, I am now releasing videos of short interviews with some people there on YouTube and my LinkedIn. I also wrote a blog post about the healthcare communication research I saw presented at the conference. You’ll be seeing more posts from Bedside Manners on our company Instagram and LinkedIn as we’ve hired a new staff member, design student Evie White, to assist with creating content.
We’re looking to grow what Bedside Manners can offer, and to do that it would be very helpful if you could leave us a Google review if you have taken an online module or course, had a coaching session, used our research services, or attended one of our workshops or presentations. Following Bedside Manners across the social media platforms linked above would also be a great help.
Recommendation of the month
I have two recommendations this month. The first is a conversation analytic case study on alignment and how people manage their stances in social relationships. The first author of the paper also presented my favourite talk from ICCA2026. The second is a self-promotion of my plenary from the International Conference on Communication in Healthcare in 2024 that just passed 100k views on YouTube. The 2026 ICCH conference is fast approaching. I won’t be there, but there’s sure to be some interesting presentations and posters.
CPD
Our online modules offer focused insights into communication in the wild. Students report learning that the modules offered them new insights into how conversations are collaboratively structured and that the concepts taught are directly relevant to communication in the workplace, including clinical practice.

ACSQHC Standards
As I’ve mentioned before, I am on the committee relating to communication for the revision of the National Safety and Quality Standards. They’ve recently released some draft standards for review and I know many of you are interested in communication in healthcare, so I encourage you to provide feedback to ACSQHC.
