Recommendations of the month
Last month I came across a recently published book and while I haven’t read the whole thing, I know it will be of interest to many of my newsletter subscribers. The title says it all: Developing Interactional Competences at and for Work. The edited book brings together numerous experts to show how people develop professional communication competences in different kinds of workplaces and professions. through their interactions. I particularly liked Tisserand’s chapter on post-simulation debriefing. It looks like you either need to buy it or request it from your library. Another option is to reach out to individual chapter authors on ResearchGate or via email.
You might have noticed that it says “recommendations” in the heading above, and that’s because there are two. Dr Sean Rintel has recently left Microsoft Research and in his farewell post on LinkedIn he shared his website. It provides so much information on the work he has done on meetings and on AI. If you’re interested in those topics, make sure to check it out!
Responding to communication remediation requests
Remediation is not necessarily a word I am fond of, but it is a word used a lot, particularly in the world of healthcare complaints. Given our expertise in personalised feedback on communication, Bedside Manners offers several different remediation options. We’ve shared our pricing and can discuss cost options for either group programs or for additional coaching.
Course on conversation analysis
Our course on conversation analysis is now available (almost) year-round, with modules released week-by-week after you enrol. While we’ll have some downtime from it during the festive season and southern hemisphere summertime, you’ll usually be able to complete the course in 10 weeks with feedback from me each week. This course is designed for those new to conversation analysis who want support in developing a project while learning the practicalities of doing CA from start to finish.
Social media
You can follow both me and Bedside Manners on social media:
Me: Instagram, BlueSky, YouTube, LinkedIn
Bedside Manners: Instagram, LinkedIn
Don’t forget!
We’re looking to grow what Bedside Manners can offer, and to do that it would be very helpful if you could leave us a Google review if you have taken an online module or course, had a coaching session, used our research services, or attended one of our workshops or presentations. Following Bedside Manners across the social media platforms linked above would also be a great help.
