Straight to the pool room

We recently reached out to people who have either completed an online module, a course, or an in-person workshop for feedback to share with others. We’ve put these on the main page and we’re adding them here in our “pool room”.

Dr Clare Skinner, BSc BA(Hons) MBBS MPH FACEM AFRACMA GAICD

“Dr White facilitated a workshop titled 'Communication challenges in the Emergency Department' for a group of senior emergency medicine specialists at our recent conference. She prepared very diligently, interviewing me and a colleague about the real-life difficult conversations we hold under pressure, and spending time in the emergency department to observe and analyse how clinicians interact with colleagues, consumers and carers. Dr White brought a unique contribution of academic rigour, lived experience of complex illness, and a deep commitment to health care improvement, as well as the wellbeing of health care workers and patients, to the workshop. The result was a highly practical education session that will help senior clinicians improve their practice and has stimulated continuing reflection on how integral good communication is to emergency medicine practice. Thank you so much, Dr White, for your dedication and care.”

Dr Peter Roberts OAM, MBBS FACEM

“The workshop by Bedside Manners was particularly effective for a group of specialist doctors. The linguistic analysis of real communications was academically and generally engaging. It allowed the specialists to see subtleties of communication laid bare.

This is a really good solution to cut through the barriers that most folk have about critique of their communication. This workshop works really well.”

Dr India Pinker, BS MS PhD

“I took Bedside Manners' course on Conversation Analysis and I have recommended it to everyone I know seeking better understanding of this methodology. Sarah invests time into each module and providing personalised feedback on every activity. This course was the best investment I could make as developing researcher in the area.”

Dr Michael Dadson, BClinSc MN MD

“The impression left by your doctor during crucial conversations are often indelible (for better or worse). With the help of Sarah J White and Bedside Manners I can confidently say that I feel better equipped for these moments.”
